Google Checkout vs. Paypal Shopping Cart

You've heard of Google and you've heard about Paypal. We cannot really recommend one over the other, but we can tell you the difference between them. Both offer you the ability to receive payments for products online via credit card payment, and neither requires you go through a credit check.

• Paypal has been around for a long time and is used by many millions worldwide, primarily for ebay transactions
• Offer the ability to purchase via a web site using their own checkout system
• Your customers are able to shop your web site and add items to a shopping cart. At the end, they can checkout using Paypal's checkout system, which is a very fast process, especially if they already have a Paypal account (which they probably do!)
• Paypal does require you to have a Business or Premier account for using this system
• Paypal's fees are variable, but begin at 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction for monthly income up to $3,000. Lower rates are available for higher monthly income, but merchant rate qualification is required.
  
  
  

• Google offers you the ability to sell one item at a time using "Buy Now" buttons
• We can set up a web site with more items than that for you, but as soon as a customer adds one item to a shopping cart, they will be taken to Google's checkout pages, and if they wish to purchase additional items, they will have to start over
• The big advantage to Google checkout is increased exposure on the Google web search results
• Google charges a low fee of 2.0% plus $0.20 per transaction, which is waived if you are using their advertising program
